Light winds. Game-time temperature: Around 80. The Chicago Cubs will try to build upon their four-game winning streak when they head to Cincinnati for the first of a three-game set against the Reds. The Cubs began the week with two wins over Arizona and then took two in a row from Colorado, including a 9-7 victory on Thursday. Chicago went 7-5 against the Reds last year, and split the six games at Cinergy Field where the under went 4-2. Cincinnati is coming off two straight wins over the Marlins, including an 11-8 victory on Thursday. Chicago's Jeremi Gonzalez will go for his third straight victory in this matchup when he faces Pete Harnisch and the Reds. Gonzalez is coming off his best start of the season at home against San Francisco on Saturday, a complete-game shutout in which he allowed six hits, walked four and struck out seven. He is still looking for his first win on the road, where he is 0-2 in three starts with a 9.82 ERA. The total has gone under in five of his last six starts. Harnisch is also coming off one of his best starts of the year, as he struck out a season-high 12 batters with no walks last time out at Pittsburgh on Sunday. The Reds eventually won that game, although Harnisch failed to get a decision, like three of his previous four starts. In fact, he has gotten just two decisions this season - both wins - going 1-0 in three home starts with a 3.98 ERA. The under is 5-1-1 in his past seven overall. The Braves downed St. Louis 7-3 on Thursday, but failed to break the major league record for consecutive games with a home run. Atlanta went 7-4 against the Astros last season, including a 3-2 mark at the Astrodome. Houston had its five-game winning streak snapped on Thursday with a 7-2 loss to Pittsburgh. The Braves and Astros will both try to win their sixth straight games with today's pitchers on the mound, as Atlanta's Denny Neagle faces Houston's Jose Lima. The Braves have won Neagle's last five starts, although the past four have all come at Turner Field. He is 1-1 in three road starts with a 4.09 ERA and is 3-4 lifetime vs. Houston. The Cardinals are coming off two straight losses to Atlanta, including a 7-3 setback on Thursday in which Mark McGwire belted his 15th homer. In this matchup, Brady Raggio will make his first start of the season for St. Louis, while the Marlins hope to win for the first time in four starts for Brian Meadows. Raggio was 4-2 in six starts for Triple-A Memphis of the Pacific Coast League to go along with an impressive 2.48 ERA. He walked seven batters in 40 innings, allowing 35 hits and striking out 31. Florida has lost the last three times Meadows has gone to the mound, all at home. He has given up nine runs in 18 2/3 innings over that stretch, walking seven and striking out 13. The Rockies fell to 4-13 at Coors Field on Thursday when they lost to the Cubs 9-7, despite collecting 21 hits and leaving 17 on base. The Rockies have lost four in a row and have the seen the total go under in five of their last six games. The Brewers will be coming from Arizona having lost to the Diamondbacks 4-1 on Thursday. Milwaukee has dropped five of its last six games. Steve Woodard will make his third start of the season for the Brewers against Darryl Kile and the Rockies. The Rangers won the last three games of four against the Indians in Texas last week as all four games came in under the total. The Rangers won for the sixth time in their last seven games on Thursday when they defeated the Yankees 7-5 in 13 innings. Meanwhile, the Indians broke out of a six-game losing streak with a 5-4 victory over Baltimore on Thursday. In this pitching matchup, Texas will send John Burkett to the mound while the Indians counter with Jaret Wright. These two faced each other in the last start for both pitchers when the Rangers defeated the Indians 5-3 on Sunday. Burkett got the win after surrendering three runs on four hits in eight innings while Wright took the loss after giving up nine hits for five runs (three earned) in 5 2/3 innings. It was the second straight win over the Indians for Burkett, who went eight innings with seven hits and one run against them in May of 1997. The last three starts for Burkett have stayed under the total, with the Rangers going 2-1 in that time. Wright has not earned a win in his last five starts, going 0-2 with three no-decisions. His last start at home came against Baltimore on May 5 when he got a no-decision after allowing seven hits for four runs in seven innings. The Indians have gone 5-3 when Wright has started, with the over going 5-2-1 in those games. The Blue Jays defeated Anaheim 5-4 on Thursday, and improved to 3-0 against the Angels for the season. Ken Hill will start this one for Anaheim and will be looking for his seventh win of the season. The right-hander has a 6-1 record with one-no decision thus far, and is coming off a win over Detroit on Sunday. On that occasion, he pitched 6 2/3 innings while yielding eight hits for two runs with seven strikeouts and two walks. His one no-decision came against Toronto on May 5 when he allowed seven hits for five runs with five walks and three strikeouts in five innings. In fact, Hill has yet to earn a win against Toronto, as he owns an 0-3 lifetime record. The Angels are 6-2 in his 1998 starts while the under is 6-2 as well. The Blue Jays will counter with Pat Hentgen, who is coming off a win against Seattle on Saturday. He scattered five hits over six scoreless innings with six strikeouts and three walks in that game. The Devil Rays went 1-2 against the Orioles last week in Tampa Bay, with all three games coming in under the total. They are coming off two straight losses to Kansas City, including a 10-2 setback on Thursday. Meanwhile, Baltimore fell to Cleveland 5-4 on Thursday. Pitcher Mike Mussina suffered a fractured nose in the game when he was hit by a line drive. In a rematch of Tampa Bay's 4-3 win over the Orioles on Sunday, Wilson Alvarez will start for the Devil Rays and Jimmy Key will go for Baltimore. Both pitchers made it six innings and wound up with no-decisions in Sunday's contest. Alvarez gave up five hits for three runs with six strikeouts and one walk while Key allowed four hits for three runs (one earned) with six strikeouts and one walk. Alvarez had three straight losses prior to Sunday, but has a respectable 2.60 ERA on the road this season. The under has come in the last three times he has started along with six of his eight outings this year. Key has been outstanding at Camden Yards this season, pitching 19 innings over three games while allowing 14 hits and just two runs for a .95 ERA. He has not pitched there since earning a win over Oakland on April 25 when he scattered six hits over seven scoreless innings with five strikeouts and one walk.
